Pt in balanced half reactions

Postby Emily Vainberg 1D » Sun Mar 01, 2020 2:29 pm

When the questions asks you to write a balanced half reaction, would we include Pt (s) if we needed to add it as a conductor into the equation? I know we include it when we write out the cell diagram, but what about the half reactions?

Platinum is only used as an electrode, it does not participate in the reaction; therefore, should not be included in the half reactions for the cell.

No, because the Pt does not react with the other elements, you do not write it in the equation
