Salt Bridge

Postby 805383532 » Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:09 pm

If there isn't a salt bridge, then how are the charges maintained/balanced?

I think if there isn't a salt bridge, there needs to be a porous membrane for ions to diffuse through in order to maintain the charge balance.

if there is no salt bridge in an electrolytic cell it's because the anode and cathode can be in the same solution, so a salt bridge wouldn't be necessary (i think).
