a comma is used if elements are in the same phase, for example of both are aqueous

Re: Cell Diagram Comma vs Line
A line is used to separate elements of different phases and a comma is used for elements of the same phase. So if you had Cu(s) and Cu2+(aq), there would be a line between them.

Re: Cell Diagram Comma vs Line
Comma is used if there are multiple species in the same phase while a line is used to separate phases such as aqueous, gas, liquid, and solid.
