Cell notation

Postby Jorja De Jesus 2C » Sun Mar 01, 2020 10:39 pm

When writing equations based off what is given in cell notation, what is the best way to determine which elements to leave out? For example in the standard hydrogen equation, you leave out platinum when but use the rest of the elements.

you should only leave out the Pt because you're only adding that in the cell diagram when you have all aqueous/ gaseous solutions. All other elements in the cell diagram should usually be included.

The pt(s) is an inert metal inserted as an electrode because the other elements are not solids, so it should not be included in the balanced equation. The other elements in the cell diagram should be included in the balanced equation.
