Calculating standard cell potentials

Postby Kennedi2J » Sun Mar 01, 2020 11:12 pm

Which method for calculating the standard cell potential can be used for both galvanic and electrolysis cells?

I believe for both you can solve for the standard cell potential by subtracting the standard cell potential of the cathode by the standard cell potential of the anode. I believe another way to calculate standard cell potential is to divide the standard delta G by -nF.If the standard cell potential is greater than zero, then it is galvanic. On the other hand, if the standard cell potential is less than zero, then it is electrolytic.

Can someone define what exactly a standard cell potential is?
