How do you know which water reduction half reaction to use when looking up the cell potential?

I believe you would look at the table of reduction equations in Appendix 2B and find the one that has the correct other reactants so that when you add the oxidation and reduction reactions, the overall redox equation is the one the question is looking for. On the quiz I believe we will be given the values for standard reduction potential or a table of reduction values if they are needed for a question!
