Favoring reactions
If the anode has a larger value than the cathode, does the reaction favor the products? Does it have to be the cathode that is a larger value for the reaction to favor the products? And is this something we should know?

The reaction will favor the reactants if the anode has a larger value than the cathode, because the overall cell potential will be negative, so delta G will be positive.

Looking at the Nernst Equation and how the variables related to one another can help you understand the effect of anode/cathode differences.

Using the equation deltaG=-nfE(naught), if E(naught) is calculated using E(cathode)-E(anode), and E anode is bigger, this means that the total cell potential will be negative. Since negative times negative is positive, delta G is positive, which tells us that the forward reaction is not favored, but rather the reverse.

For nonstandard cell potentials, looking at the proportions of products and reactants when calculating Q can also help you determine which direction the reaction favors. For example, if Q is a large number (so there would be a lot of product in proportion to reactants), it would be a product favored system. If Q is a small number (so there would be a lot of reactant), it would be a reactant favored system.

In this case, the reverse direction or reactant side is favored since the reaction is spontaneous when Ecellnaught is positive.

Correct, if the anode value is larger than the cathode, the reactants/ reverse reaction will be favored. You should also know that this means a negative cell potential, and a positive delta G
