Lavelle's review slides

Postby JosephineF » Thu Mar 12, 2020 7:57 am

In Lavelle's review slides there is a problem asking what the problem is with the cell diagram and the correction is the addition of Pt(s) to the right side. Is this because the right side only had Br(aq) and Br(g) and there needs to be a solid conductor in a galvanic cell?

Since neither Br(aq) and Br(g) are conducting solids, Pt(s) has to be included in the cell diagram.

Br is not a conducting solid, so Pt needs to be added!

Pt(s) is an inert metal, so it won't affect the reaction but is necessary to serve as conductor.
