Mnemonic for Oxidation and Reduction

Postby chimerila » Sat Mar 14, 2020 8:46 pm

I find its helpful to have mnemonics for ideas, so I use LRC and ROA for reduction and oxidation.

LRC - electrons are on the "L"eft side, so it's "R"educed, and it's a "C"athode
ROA - electrons are on the "R"ight side, so it's "O"xidized, and it's an "A"node

Hope that helps!

Thank you for this.. it really helps! I also find "LEO" very useful---> "LEO" meaning Loss of Electrons

Thanks! For oxidation reduction I also usually use Leo the lion goes ger. LEO --> lose electrons Oxidation, GER--- gain electrons reduction.

It's used in the book so I'm not sure if you already know this one but Red Cat, An Ox is super helpful for me (REDuction = CAThode, ANode = OXidation)

I line up the consonants and the vowels: Reduced + Cathode, Oxidized + Anion

I find that OIL RIG is useful:
Oxidation is Loss
Reduction is Gain

OIL - oxidation is loss
RIG - reduction is gain
