Including H2O in Cell Diagram

Postby ASetlur_1G » Sat Mar 14, 2020 11:47 pm

Just to clarify, do we not add H2O (l) to the cell diagram because it's already implied in the aqueous solution?

Yes, you do not include H2O. In a cell diagram I think the molarity of the aqueous species already shows that there is a liquid involved. In cell notation you also do not include water (the set up is electrode material|aqueous species||aqueous species|electrode material).

Correct. I believe by writing (aq) in the first place instead of calling the component (l) implies that that the reactant or product is not purely on its own and is suspended in a liquid medium - in this case, water.

Yes, H2O is not included in the cell diagram
