adding platinum

How can you tell if a cell diagram needs an inert metallic component?

It will tell you if there is another metal, if not put platinum if writing out how the cell would look like. Platinum is most commonly used as an electrode.

Also, hydrogen electrodes need an inert metal such as platinum.

If there isn't a viable metal electrode listed in the equation then platinum can be used/put in the diagram

when there is no conducting solid in reactants or products, add platinum as a common inert conductor

Platinum (solid) is needed when there is no electrode for a given anode/cathode.

This is needed when there’s not already a solid present.

If there is no conductive solid already participating in the redox reaction, then you would need to [censored] an inert metal such as Pt(s)

Does the inert metal always have to be platinum? How do you know when to use platinum or any other inert metal?
