Seeing how many electrons transfer

Postby JustinHorriat_4f » Sun Mar 15, 2020 8:29 pm

For seeing how many electrons are transferring can u do two ways, separate and find oxidation numbers for a specific atom or just balance each of the equations?
Do both ways work?

i usually find it easiest to just split into half reactions, finding the number of e- by looking at change in oxidation numbers

Both ways do work, but the easier method is generally to split up the half reactions and balance it that way depending on whether it is a basic or acidic solution.
