metal galvanization

Postby Saanvi Rai » Fri Mar 15, 2024 12:30 am

are zinc and chromium usually metals used to galvanize other metals, or does it depend on the metal being galvanized?

They are the ones that galvanize other metals, but not all metals can be galvanized.

The zinc coating, when intact, prevents corrosive substances from reaching the underlying steel or iron. The zinc protects iron by corroding first. The process of chromium plating involves the use of electrolysis for binding a thin plate of chromium onto another object, usually another metal that is easily corroded. When something is galvanized it means it is coated with zinc and chrome means the base metal is coated with chromium
