Gibbs free energy is a state function that tells us a reactions relationship between enthalpy (positive if exothermic, negative if endothermic) and the entropy along with temperature. Gibbs free energy is defined in terms of thermodynamic properties that are state functions as well. If the change in G is negative, the reaction is most likely spontaneous and will proceed in the forward direction. If the change in G is positive, the reaction is most likely non-spontaneous and will proceed in the reverse direction.

The Gibbs Free Energy is the energy associated with a reaction that can be used to do work. This is a function of the enthalpy of the reaction minus the temperature multiplied by the entropy. It can be used to see the spontaneity of a reaction, with a negative Gibbs Free energy representing a spontaneous reaction.

In thermodynamics, the Gibbs free energy is a thermodynamic potential that can be used to calculate the maximum of reversible work that may be performed by a thermodynamic system at a constant temperature and pressure.

Most of the times, we use Gibbs Free Energy to tell us about the spontaneity of a reaction. It is . state function and gives us a relationship between Enthalpy and Entropy. we say a reaction is spontaneous if its change in G is negative.

Gibbs free energy will tell you if a reaction is spontaneous or not.
