### Spontaneous?

How do you determine if Gibbs free energy is spontaneous or not?

when its negative its spontaneous. when its positive its not spontaneous.

you look at the change in Gibbs Free Energy (Delta G). if the value is negative, it is a spontaneous reaction, also called exergonic. if it has a positive value it is not spontaneous, also called endergonic.

If the change in DeltaG is negative then the forward reaction will be spontaneous, but if deltaG is positive then the reverse reaction is spontaneous.

its not that gibbs free energy is negative or positive, but the change in Gibbs tells us if the reaction is spontaneous is not. negative delta G is spontaneous.
