predict the standard potential of each of the following galvanic cells:
(a) Pt I Cr^3+, Cr^2+ II Cu^2+ I Cu

(b) Ag I AgI I I^- II Cl^- I AgCl I Ag

(c) Hg I Hg2Cl2 I Cl- II Hg2 ^2+ I Hg

(d) C I Sn^4+, Sn^2+ II Pb^4+, Pb^2+ I Pt

galvanic cells have a positive potential difference so find the cathode and anode that makes E (naught) cell positive using the equation E(naught) cell= E (naught) cathode- E(naught) anode

Use the cell diagrams to come up with the reduction and oxidization half reactions. From that go to Appendix 2B and find the standard potential differences for each reaction. Use Ecathode-Eanode to find the Ecell and don't reverse the potentials from the appendix, because the equation already accounts for the reversal. You are also free to use Ecathode+Eanode, but then you have to reverse the reduction potential for the oxidation half reaction and then add.
