### Work

How is a battery doing work through the redox reaction? Is there a change in energy happening with this?

### Re: Work

Also, how does the potential for work relate to E?

### Re: Work

The Gibbs free energy of a redox reaction can be linked to its cell potential and Gibbs free energy can be interpreted as the maximum non-expansion work a specific reaction can do.

### Re: Work

The formula you are looking for is delta G standard = -RTlnK = -nFEcell. The Gibbs free energy gives the maximum non-expansion work, as the previous response mentioned.

### Re: Work

The potential difference is the maximum amount of Gibbs Free energy, the energy available to do work.
