Units for n

Postby 305421980 » Mon Mar 02, 2020 10:31 pm

For the equation delta G=-nFE, does n have units or no because it is just transferred electrons?

n is in moles of electrons, which is canceled out by the units of the Faraday constant

n is calculated in the unit of mole (abbreviated; mol)

You can find out the number of moles of electrons being transferred by balancing the half reactions. The number of moles of electrons involved in oxidation should equal the amount involved in reduction.

The units for n is mole since it refers to the moles of electrons transferred in the redox reaction.
