Nernst Equation

Postby Mackenzie Lay 2H » Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:50 pm

Hello!
How do we use Nernst equation to calculate cell potentials that are at non-standard conditions?

You use the equation below:
Ecell=Ecell− RT/nF x ln(Q/K)
You would begin with balancing the reaction, finding the value of the standard cell potential, and then find the Q. You can identify the n from the balanced redox rxn, and just sub everything into the equation. Also make sure T is in kelvin.
