Relationship between temperature and cell potential
Can someone explain what the relationship between temperature and cell potential is? Does temperature affect cell potential and how so?

Re: Relationship between temperature and cell potential
Temperature affects cell potential through its effect on the exponential term in the Nernst equation. As temperature increases, the cell potential generally decreases for reactions with positive standard cell potentials and increases for reactions with negative standard cell potentials.

Re: Relationship between temperature and cell potential
Temperature affects the cell potential because when temperature is increased or high that means that reaction is going to be speed up due to the high heat temperature. Temperature affects the rate of a reaction and activation energy. This is what the arrhenius equation summarizes.

Re: Relationship between temperature and cell potential
Temperature has the ability to influence cell potential by the Nernst equation. Nernst equation states that as temperature rises, cell potential increases (endothermic reactions) or decreases (exothermic reactions). Temperature will affect the entropy change of a reaction and the balance between enthalpy and entropy contributions to ∆G. Temperature affects cell potential because it affects the equilibrium constant which affects the balance of reaction rates and influences the overall cell potential.
