### Nernst Equation (ln vs log)

In what case should you use the nernst equation with ln vs with log? For example, in 2013 midterm Q8B, the solution says to say log instead of ln. Can someone explain why?

### Re: Nernst Equation (ln vs log)  [ENDORSED]

Both ln and log can be used for the Nernst equation but log is used over ln for simplicity. Using ln instead of log should give you the same answer. In that specific problem, I believe they used log because it is just an alternate form of the same equation but usually log is used in place of ln when there are numbers such as .01 or .1 (in the 10s) in the equation for molarity because it is easier to find the log of something that is to the power of 10 instead of the ln. Hope this helps!
