### Contradictory Ecell equations

When is the equation Ecell=Eright-Eleft used instead of Ecell=Ecathode-Eanode. It seems these equations contradict themselves if the anode is always on the right and the cathode is always on the left.

### Re: Contradictory Ecell equations

In class Lavelle said that the anode (what is being oxidized) is always on the left and the cathode (what is being reduced) is always on the right.

### Re: Contradictory Ecell equations

The equations should be the same because cathodes are actually always on the right, and the anodes are always on the left.
