### Setting up redox equation for Nernst

An example in the textbook asks us to calculate the potential of a Daniell cell at 25 C in which the concentration of Zn2+ ions is 0.10 mol L 1 and that of the Cu2+ ions is 0.0010 mol L 1. How do we know if Zn2+ or Cu2+ is the product or reactant?

### Re: Setting up redox equation for Nernst

Can you use the standard cell potentials to determine which way would be spontaneous and then use that to find which is the cathode and which is the anode?

Are we not supposed to use the Appendix for such a question?
