K Value

Postby 105114680 » Sun Mar 03, 2019 5:58 pm

Why is it that anytime the Nernst equation is used to solve for K, K is written with only one significant figure (for example: K = 1x103)?

I don't think this is true, it might have to do with the significant figures being used in the examples you have seen.

Significant figures are usually derived from the problem itself. Using the Nernst Equation should not be the determinant of how many significant figures will be used for K.

Are significant figures something we are being graded on right now? It seems like he had been pretty relaxed about them recently.

I think it depends on the problem. Some problems he didn't look at sig figs

They weren't worth anything on test 2 but i don't know if they will be for the final.

most problems don't assign points for sig figs because they're appointed for something else, but with as many points that are on the final, I wouldn't be surprised if they count for something.

Should be specific to the question
