Ecell and pH
An equation in the book to determine the pH of a solution is . What is ? Is there a better way to do this?

I believe that is similar to what we did in class with E = E° + RTlnQ, where E° is the standard cell potential (Concentrations of 1M and standard conditions)

I think E'cell is the standard E which is the same as E°. It is a fast way in my opinion because otherwise, you need to calculate pH from lnQ.

Yes as the above comments have stated, I believe it is best to use the equation involving Q. There were many times Dr. Lavelle advised against using some methods the book suggested.
