Why do galvanic cells stop working after a period of time?

The cell stops working after a period of time because the reaction has stopped. That means that the reactants have all transformed.

Eventually the reaction that occurs between the two sides will complete/ be at equilibrium.

Think of it like a battery being used up. After all of the reactants have gone to products, there is no more ability for it to create energy from the reaction.

It stops working because it reaches equilibrium.
