Test 2 help!

Postby 405112316 » Fri Mar 15, 2019 3:54 pm

Could someone help me out with an explanation for #5? This is the question that asks for an analysis of whether the pH of a water solution is acidic or basic?

You use the Van’t Hoff equation to find the pH based on the information given and then you compare this pH you get to pH 7. If the pH is below 7 then pH would be basic and if it’s above 7 then a pH of 7 would be relatively acidic.

I used the van't Hoff equation to get the equilibrium constant at 40 degrees Celsius, but how do I use this to find pH?

you have to take K and set up the expression and then use it to solve for pH.
