When to use Nernst

Postby Katherine Grillo 1B » Fri Mar 15, 2019 9:08 pm

I'm confused as to when the Nernst equation would be applicable? When do we know to use it?

It's used to understand electron transfer when conditions aren't standard (so not occurring at 25ºC)

The Nernst equation is used when galvanic cell concentrations are not in standard conditions, meaning they are not 1 M. The concentrations are used in the Q value of the equation.

Do we have to know when to derive it?
