How do I know when to use log instead of ln in the Nernst Equation?

You can use either forms of the equation with either log or ln because you will get the same answer either way. It just might be sometimes more convenient to use the log form of the Nernst equation if you're dealing with pH since pH = -logH+. In most of the problems however either equation will work fine.
