E naught and K

E naught and K

How is E naught related to K? Does a positive E naught mean K>1 and a negative E naught means K<1?

E naught can be realted to K through equations, but since E nought is a standard value (only @ standard conditions of 1 atm and 25 degrees C), I don't think different K values can change the E nought values. Since K will only change with temp, and E nought is only valid at a specific temperature

I think if you have a large E naught then that means you must have a large K. I think it works also for very small E naughts, which would mean we have a similar small K value. Hope this helps!

Hi. E(naught) = (RT/nF)lnK. Having a larger K makes the expression larger and thus a positive E(naught) and vise versa for a small K (K<1).
