Different forms of equation

Postby samanthaywu » Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:47 am

When not mentioned, is it generally okay to assume that the reaction is taking place at 25 degrees C (so that you can use the simplified form of the Nernst equation)

I would be careful with it but in most cases it will say at 25oC so I wouldn't worry about it. However, if you don't see any other way to solve the equation other than the nernst equation, and temperature isn't specified, I would say that it's an ok assumption to make

I’m pretty sure Dr. Lavelle mentioned this in the beginning of the Friday review session. He said he will always try to add in the question that it is under standard condition (25C) but if this is not mentioned and no other temp is given he said it’s safe to assume that the reaction is occurring at 25C
