Electrolysis Application

What is a real life application of electrolysis other than creating Magnesium solid? Or what could you use with this newly formed magnesium solid?

Apparently electroylsis is important in a stage of seperating pure elements from natural ores. Then you could use those metals for a variety of things.

A real life example of electrolysis would be electroplating objects with chromium, nickel or gold jewelry.
