The demonstration illustrated how a hotdog can act as a conductor for electrons due to its salt and water content. Very much how in a galvanic cell, a salt bridge and external circuit allows current to flow while keeping ion charge balance, a hotdog in contact with an external power source can allow electrons to flow through a diode and light it up.
