Dissolved Metal

How would we be able to predict if a metal will dissolve in a solution?

I believe that in the context of electrolytic reactions, the anode is always the one that corrodes.

If you are talking about solubility, there are lists you can find online. I don't remember the pneumonics to know this, but certain metals such as silver and mercury do not dissolve in water.

If the metal is the cathode it will come out of solution and accumulate on the electrode. If it is the anode it will "dissolve" from the electrode and go into solution.
