How could we identify a catalyst in a chemical reaction?

A catalyst is an enzyme or other substance, sometimes just a singular atom, that reduces the activation energy of a reaction. We can identify a catalyst in a chemical reaction if the reaction states that the activation energy is reduced in the presence of the supposed catalyst or if the reaction states that there is an enzyme involved.
