Collisions between molecules

Postby Mackenzie Lay 2H » Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:59 pm

How do collisions between reacting molecules lead to chemical reactions, and how is this concept related to reaction kinetics?

Hi! Molecules must collide in order to react. In order to effectively initiate a reaction, collisions must be sufficiently energetic (kinetic energy) to break chemical bonds; this energy is known as the activation energy. Hope this helps

Collisions between reacting molecules lead to chemical reactions by overcoming the activation energy barrier. This concept is related to reaction kinetics because the frequency and energy of collisions determine the rate of the reaction.
