What is the difference between instantaneous rate and average rate?

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

average, in terms of reaction rates, is the change in molar concentration during an interval divided by that time interval. Instantaneous is pretty much the same thing but regarding a specific point of interest. So instead of a rate over a period of time, instantaneous is like a snapshot of what the rate is at an instant in time I believe.

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

average rate is when you take the change over time while instantaneous is usually when time is approaching zero and you take the derivative

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

Instantaneous change would imply a derivative, because you're finding the changing at a certain time t, versus average would be you finding the change over a period of time, from t1 to t2.

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

An average rate is taken over an interval of time. An instantaneous rate is taken at one specific instance/moment in time.

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

The average rate is the rate over a given interval of time. Instantaneous rate is the rate at a given moment in time

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

Instantaneous rate is the rate of the reaction at a particular time.
Average rate is the rate of the reaction over the time taken to the reaction's completion

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

Average rate is the change in the value of a quantity divided by the elapsed time. The instantaneous rate on the other and is the rate of a change at an exact moment in time.

### Re: Instantaneous vs Average

Average rate is the change over time while the instantaneous rate is the rate at a specific moment found when taking the derivative.
