Activation Energy

How can we define activation energy and represent it using energy profile diagrams?

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the minimum quantity of energy which the reacting species must possess in order to undergo a specified reaction to reach the products and this can be shown in an energy profile diagram by showing the energy of the reactants, the energy needed to overcome the Activation energy, and the final energy of the products.

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the energy needed for a reaction to happen (for reactants to turn into products or vice versa)
You can show this using graphs by drawing a little hump (if you google activation energy exothermic / endothermic they’ll have all the graphs showing this)
If the hump goes from higher reactants to lower product energy, then the reaction is exothermic and the activation energies can be shown from the reactants line to the peak of the hump .

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the energy needed to turn reactants into products. It is the energy difference between the energy of the reactants and the highest peak of the energy graph.

The hill - looking thing that comes after the reactants in energy diagrams represents the activation energy

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the energy required to cause a reaction to happen. It is represented by the highest peak on an energy graph.

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the minimum amount of energy required for a certain reaction to occur. In an energy profile diagram, it would be the peak of the graph.

Re: Activation Energy

Activation energy is the amount of energy required for reactant particles to collide. It is represented as the amount of energy between the transition state point and reactant or intermediate step.
