Overall Order

Postby Joonsoo Kim 4L » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:43 pm

What is the significance of determining the overall order of a reaction if it doesn't help you understand the individual orders or rate?

It helps for when you're finding the units for k because the units are M^(1-n) x t^-1 where n is the overall order

Good question. The only thing I can think of is it would tell you the units of the equation as seen in the table below.

you can use it to determine how the overall rate will change with a change in reactant concentration

The overall order can help us determine the units of K and figure out which order reaction equation we should use.

you really just use it to determine K and its units
