HW 7.1 Kinetic control vs Thermodynamic control

Postby Luyan Zhang - 2D » Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:13 pm

Is kinetics always controlling the reaction at the lower temperature since it is the reaction with the lower activation energy?

I don't know if it is always true, because there are probably conditions that can be altered that can affect which type of product predominates at a certain temperature given other factors like catalysts, concentrations, pressure, etc. But I think that it generally applies for most cases that at low temperatures, the reactions are predominated by kinetic control given the low Ea that leads to a faster rate constant.

Yes. At a lower temperature, kinetics is the main control. At a higher temperature, thermodynamics is the main control.
