Kinetic vs thermodynamics

Postby 205192823 » Sun Mar 15, 2020 7:40 am

I have difficulty understanding how to solve the problem when it uses kinetics vs thermodynamics in the question? How do I solve the problem in both different cases?

You use kinetics when you are observing the speed/rate of a reaction and use thermodynamics to tell if the reaction is favored or not

You shouldn't confuse the two when doing calculations. When a question is asking about thermodynamics and kinetics at the same time it is most likely a conceptual problem that has to do energy profiles.

Kinetics is all about the rate. It involves activation energy, and rate constants, but thermodynamics has to do with Gibbs, entropy, enthalpy, and heat.
