Forward vs. Reverse

Postby graceswenson3a » Sat Mar 09, 2024 8:11 am

How can, at equilibrium, the rate of the forward reaction equal the rate of the reverse reaction if the rate of the reverse is calculated from the inverse of the forward?

Don't mix up rates with rate constants.

At equilibrium: rate forward reaction = rate reverse reaction

With respect to rate constants, the ratio of the rate constants is equal to the equilibrium constant:

k(forward)/k(reverse) = K
