Rate Constant Units

Postby AlyssaPeckham1A » Fri Mar 16, 2018 1:22 pm

Could someone elaborate on how to find the units for different rate constants in a reaction?

the units of the rate constant are determined by the order of a reaction. they can be determined by using the rate law for that order and the units of rate (mol/L.s) and concentration (mol/L).
for example, a first order reaction has rate=k[A], or k=rate/[A], so the units would be the unit of rate divided by the unit of concentration, which is (mol/L.s)/(mol/L)=s-1
