Differential rate law

In what cases do we use the differential rate law formula, K[R]^n?

A differential rate law expresses the reaction rate in terms of changes in the concentration of one or more reactants (Δ[R]) over a specific time interval (Δt). They change based on the reactants and each order of reactant (n), which then gives us further insight into the reaction mechanism. I believe you use this equation when you are focusing on only the reactants, and when their concentration values change throughout the reaction.
