### Types of Rate Laws?

Can someone explain the difference between instantaneous, unique, differential, and average rate laws? How do we know when to use which?

An integrated rate law gives the concentration of reactants or products at any time after the start of the reaction. The instantaneous rate of the reaction is the slope of the tangent to the curve at a single instant. The average reaction rate in a particular interval is the change in molar concentration of a reactant divided by the time interval. There is no need to specify the species when reporting the unique average reaction rate because the value of the rate is the same, regardless of which species is indicated.
