Average rate vs unique rate vs instantaneous rate

Postby Hailey Boehm 2H » Thu Mar 07, 2019 5:27 pm

What is the difference between average rate, unique rate, and instantaneous rate (on a conceptual level)?

Average rate: Total Change/Total Time
Instantaneous rate: The rate of change at a particular moment
Unique rate: The rate of change of a species divided by its stoichiometric coefficient. For reactants it's negative, as it is disappearing.

What would be the purpose of finding the average or instantaneous rate of a reaction?
