Re: Third Order Reactions
A third order reaction is a chemical reaction in which the rate is proportional to the concentration of three reacting molecules. This type of reaction is very uncommon because all three reactants would have to simultaneously collide together, with sufficient energy and correct orientation, to produce a reaction.

Re: Third Order Reactions
However, I think you would also say a reaction is third order, if it is first order with respect to one of the products, and second order with respect to another.
Re: Third Order Reactions
A reaction is of third order if the rate is determined by the variation of three concentration terms. The minimum number of molecules necessary for a third order reaction to take place is three.

Re: Third Order Reactions
A third order reaction is when the rate of the reaction depends on the concentration of 3 molecules that are acting as reactants. A third order reaction is difficult to attain because in order for the reaction to proceed ALL 3 of the molecules must collide with each other at the proper speed, with enough energy, and oriented the proper way in order to cause the reaction to happen.
