For part a, we're asked to write the rate law of the reaction. I understand the general way to determine the reaction orders, but how would we know to compare experiments 2 and 3 for reactant B? Why couldn't we compare experiments 1 and 3 instead?

I don't think it matters which one because B is 1.25 in experiment 1 and 2

You can compare experiments 1 and 3 since the concentration of B is changing and the concentration of C is constant.

You just need two experiments that have the same concentration for both experiments so you can cancel them to find the order of the one with different concentrations.

You use whatever two reactions will allow you to cancel the value of the other reactant, allowing you to find the order of the desired reactant.
