### First vs Second vs Zero Order

What are first, second, and zero order reactions? Like what does it mean to be a first order reaction, etc.? Why does it make a difference in kinetics?

First vs second vs zero order laws determine relationship between input and output (input usually being time). first order reactions are natural log relationship, second order are recipricol relationship, and zero order have linear relationship.

A first order reaction is one that is a straight line on the ln[a] vs time graph. A second order reaction is one that is a straight line on the 1/[a] vs time graph.

It is determined by the rate, so a zero order reaction is one at a constant rate. A first order reaction is dependent on the concentration of only one of the reactants. A second order reaction is proportional to either the product of two concentrations, or a single reactant's concentration squared.

The order of a reaction tells you how the rate of that reaction changes in response to changes in the reactants' concentrations.

Each order rxn will use a different formula for the determination of its rate. Of course, they will also use different formulas to determine its half life
