### Determining Rate Laws

Can we only use the coefficients of the reactants/products in a reaction as the exponents in a rate law for intermediate rate laws?

You can only use the coefficients when you are looking at an elementary step or a rate determining step

You would only use the coefficients of the reactants, not the products, because the rate laws only use the concentrations of the reactants in the reaction.

You can also look at K's units to find which order it is. M/S is 0th order. 1/S is 1st order. 1/SM is 2nd order.

In the intermediate rate laws, only the reactants are used. Their coefficients are used as exponents in the intermediate rate law. However, for the overall rate law, it would depend on the slow step.
